What is sinusitis?

Sinusitis is the swelling of the tissue lining the hollow cavities in the skull called sinuses which are usually filled with air. As a result the hollow sinus cavity become blocked and filled with fluid, germs bacteria, fungi,viruses, etc. and leads to infection.




What are the different type of sinusitis?

According to siddha system of medicine, it is called as "PEENISAM" and it is classified into 9 types. They are as follows:

1. Vazhi Peenisam  

Frequent sneezing; runny nose; itching, irritation and pain in eyes, head or teeth; dryness of mouth; diminshed voice and fatigue. 

2. Azhal Peenisam

Fever, reddening of nasal mucosa, increased thirst, nasal block, purulent mucous from nose, decreased smell sensation and mental instability.

3. Iyam Peenisam

Headache, tears, reddening of eyes irritating pain in nose, white nasal drainage, continuous cough, and intermittent expulsion of mucous, purulent or bloody sputum.


4. Neer Peenisam

Nasal Stuffiness and watery discharge when exposed to cold or dust, mild fever, head ache, laziness and pain in limb.


5. Kuruthi Peenisam

Redness in nasal lining, bleeding and discharge of mucus from nose, pain and irritation in nose, pain in head, neck or jaws, burning sensation in eyes, tastelessness and less interest in food. 


6. Seel Peenisam

Nasal block, mucus discharge with bad smell from nose, frequent sneezing, and loss of smell sensation.


7. Sirai Peenisam

Ulcers inside nose with discharge of mucus along with decayed nasal tissue, pits in the nasal septum and loss of appetite.


8. Moolai Peenisam

Mass inside nose that looks like caterpillar and piper longum resulting in nasal block, headache and discharge of mucus and often blood.

9. Kazhuthu Peenisam

It occurs along with sore throat, painful throat, frequent sneezing and mucus drainage from nose, etc.


Triggering factors for sinusitis:

* Drinking chilled water, exposure to mist and chill air, allergy to smoke, inhalation of dusty air.

* Taking head bath in cold water and eating foods which will produce cooling effect when the body is hot.

* The disease may also arise as an associated feature of venereal disease.

* It is also considered that while practising yoga, the body may become excess and will spread up to head and brain and cause the disease.


How to cure sinusitis permanently?
